an afternoon at Fimon lake
(Vicenza (VI) - Veneto)

A few minutes from Vicenza, in a dale among the green Berici hills, you will be surprised by this little lake.

This is the unique reminder of the post-ice age, one of the few oases of peacefulness left in the tormented Po valley (except on Saturday and Sunday in Spring and Summer).

The place is really fascinating in every season, also (or maybe especially) in the depths of winter or when the autumn colours show all their shades.

There is a pleasant walk (suitable for disabled people) along the 5 km dirt path that enables you to appreciate the colours, the smells, the water, the marshes, the grass of the fields of this area that is certainly one of the most beautiful in the Berici hills and maybe of the Veneto region.

The Fimon lake, as all the Berici hills, is an “ice remnant” of the Quaternary era included in the Fimon valley.

We remind the difference between the Berici hills and the very close (20 km in a straight line) Euganei hills: the last are not less beautiful but of volcanic origin.

Remain of animals (also tropical) and traces of proto-historic human activities have been found in the peat mosses around.
