a day trip to Vicchio del Mugello
(Vicchio (FI) - Toscana)

We made a short visit to Vicchio del Mugello where you can breathe history in every street and monument, together with the love for the cuisine, simple but enriched by excellent products, still available in the small stores of the village.

The day was cloudy, but the gray sky enhanced the beautiful autumn colors.
An extraordinary moment for a visit, as indeed any time of the year.

A bit of history:
Vicchio can be considered a "recent" town as its origin dates back to 1295, when the Montesassi bridge was built.
The fortifications, began at the beginning of 1300, were enlarged in 1328 when it became part of the Florentine county.
With Tuscany it was annexed to the kingdom of Sardinia in 1860, even if the dissenting votes won in the plebiscite for the annexation.
In 1919 the town was struck by a violent earthquake that caused the collapse of the walls and three of the six towers and of many houses.
Currently only the Cerchiai tower is visible from Piazza della Vittoria, as the remaining two towers were destroyed by the Germans in retreat in the last war.
Vicchio was the birthplace of Giotto (Colle di Vespignano, about 1267 - Florence, January 8, 1337) and Guido di Pietro (Vicchio, about 1395 - Rome, February 18, 1455) called the Beato Angelico.
At Colle Vespignano it is possible to visit Giotto's house and the museum, which in this period is closed during the week,
