Placed outside the historic city center, the cathedral deserves a careful visit.
The particular architecture is called “hallenkirche” or Gothic-Baroque hall church.

The visitor is amazed by the refinement of the colors, the sculptures, the wooden decorations and most of all by the majesty of the white marble columns that rise up to about 105 ft in height.

A bit history:
It was built on the remains of a previous Romanesque church dating back to the 13th century, located near a Roman cemetery. The evidence of it is given by the Roman gravestone of Postumia Victorina (II century AD) found during the digs of the foundations of the new church.
The works were completed in 1451.
In 1753 the church was renovated, the Gothic parts were removed and replaced with Baroque enrichments.
The frescoes on the vaults were executed in 1750 by the painter Joseph Adam Ritter von Mölk.
The last works in 1860 were intended to partially bring it back in neo-Gothic style.
