IThe origin of Usseaux and its hamlets is lost in the mists of time and here you can feel the influence of the cultures, the traditions and the languages of the various settlements (Ligurians, Celts, Romans..).

The first documentary testimonies date back to 1064.

The old village, at the beginning built with larch wood and very little stone, shows the typical architecture of the alpine buildings. Only recently just to prevent fires the stone is currently used.

But the most impressive features are the colourful paintings embellishing the facades and many corners of the village.

Don’t forget the local products and especially the Plaisentif cheese, “the violet cheese” made with the milk of the first days of the mountain pasture tasting of flowers and matured for at least 80 days: this cheese is known and appreciated since Middle Ages.
