It is astonishing that such a tiny town (the municipality has a population of around 1,700) contains four incomparable treasures.
The first is the majestic Villa Sommi Picenardi, the second its garden, the third the castle of San Lorenzo, and the fourth the parish church of Sant'Ambrogio.

The only regret was that both the villa with its garden and the castle of San Lorenzo were closed to visits.
However, we promised ourselves we would return.

A bit of history:
On the site are artifacts dating back to Chalcolithic and to Roman times (1st and 2nd centuries B.C.), due to its location near the Via Postumia, which connected Aquileia to Genoa.
Named Torre de' Malamberti, in the second half of the 12th century it became the property of the Picenardi family who remained owners of the land until the 20th century.
The village was sacked several times, in 1426 and 1427, in 1509 and then in 1512.
In 1648 the castle was sacked on two occasions: by the Modenese, and the by hands of a local bandit.
In 1866 the villa housed the headquarters of the Italian army commanded by General La Marmora.
In 1868, Torre de' Malamberti was merged with the neighboring municipalities, thus assuming the name Torre de' Picenardi.
