St. Thomas Becket’s temple church |

A few kilometers from the old parish of San Nicomede [san nicomede], loc Cabriolo, there is another interesting house of worship. Placed on a hillock (about 262 foot above sea level) towering over the plain, it hosts an interesting fresco (unfortunately very damaged) with a rare example of the “Trinity meal” and a symbol of the psychostasy (the weighing of the soul), which the Templars borrowed from the ancient Egyptian religion. This symbol is frequent in Templar places [see photo 15] but generally rare in Italy and strangely in this area there are other examples: the first one in the church of San Biagio (Talignano PR) and the second one is now in the museum of Palazzo Farnese and comes from the deconsecrated church of San Lorenzo in Piacenza. |
