On the occasion of the celebrations for the “Remembrance Day”, the synagogue of Soragna set an interesting exhibition about the deportation of Jews and the Italian racist laws.

The location at the synagogue and at the Museum Fausto Levi was impressive and evocative of the terror of those years documented by evidences and images.
This initiative has been the occasion to remember that also the deportees of this zone, together with their children, never came back.

The exhibition had a great success and many parents accompanied their children here trying to understand the foolishness of those moments which infected also our territory apparently so friendly and peaceful.
It has to be stressed: we can’t forget because, as our President Mattarella said, it could happen again.

A bit of history:
The synagogue was established in a 17th century palace known as “Casa Grande delli Hebrei”; in fact in 1584 the marquis of Soragna Diofebo II Meli Lupi granted to the Jews the acquisition of buildings.
In mid-19th century the synagogue was transformed in neoclassical style and the works ended in 1855.
After the enactment of the racist laws in 1938 the building was confiscated and used as “Casa del Fascio”.
The small Jewish community of Soragna was all deported to the concentration camps and nobody came back.
In 1980 the building was restored to be used as Jewish Museum, inaugurated by Fausto Levi, president of the Jewry of Parma.
In 2015 the building was newly renovated and reinforced.
