(Angera (VA) - Lombardia)

The fortress dominates the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore and is one of the main points of interest of the underlying town.
In addition to the historic rooms with important frescoes dating back to the thirteenth century, it houses the "Museum of dolls and toys" certainly the most complete in Europe.
Of great interest is also the medieval garden, made according to a careful study of the systems of that time.

A bit of history:

The fortress
It consists of five different but harmonious buildings erected from the year 1000 until the 18th century: the Scaligera Wing, the Visconti Wing, the Tower of Giovanni Visconti, the Borromeo Wing.
Of particular interest is the Hall of Justice with its cycle of frescoes illustrating details of the life of Archbishop Ottone Visconti and his victory over the Torriani in 1227.

The Museum of Dolls and Toys
Founded by the Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, it shows some of the most beautiful toys in Europe and over 1000 finely dressed dolls.
The materials used, from wax to plastic, show the evolution of this extraordinary toy over time.
