Placed among the green hills where the Cecina river flows, Pomarance can be considered the capital of geothermal power which has its core at Larderello, so called in honour of the French industrialist François de Larderel, who began the exploitation in 19th century.
This exploitation gives to the area a strange but fascinating mix between natural and historical aspects and modern industrial technology relating to the steam harnessing.

Walking along the streets of the town center you will appreciate the medieval sides mixed to ‘800 features.
The parish church deserves a visit, together with the “Casa Bicocchi” (a bourgeois house of the 19th century) and the “Mostra permanente Guerrieri e Artigiani”, which shows items dating from Paleolithic to Renaissance.

If you love the folklore and the historical reenactments you should not miss the “Palio delle Contrade”on the 2nd Sunday of September.
