The peculiarity of the town is to be surrounded by mighty walls.
The town is rich in churches and historical buildings; among them we recommend the parish church of San Bassiano (12th century), the Town Hall (15th century), the Museo Civico and the Museo di Arti e Mestieri, with the testimonies of the river life of the inhabitants.

On the Adda right bank to be noted the modern church of San Pietro, with its suggestive mosaic facing.

A few words about the walls:
The walls surrounding the town center on the Adda left bank are about 1.15 ml long and 49.2 ft high, with a 11.5 ft thickness.
The visit stretches along a series of tunnel vaulted rooms and then along the moat, allowing evocative stops at the Ravelin, at the Guado Tower and at the Ergastolo, with its oppressive cells.
On the right bank, the Borgata di Gera, there are imposing bulwarks.

A short history:
The history of the town is strictly connected with the river: the ford, along the way from Cremona to Lodi Vecchio, determined the importance of this place firstly with the Acerra stronghold (destroyed at the end of the Roman Empire) and then with a stronghold built by the Cremona Commune on the left bank (the present-day Pizzighettone).
Important stronghold, built in 1133 and afterwards many times enlarged and strengthened by the Cremona lordships as the Visconti, the Sforza and finally the Savoia.
The counterworks worked until 1866.
