Pesaro, the Rossini´s town
(Pesaro (PU) – Marche)

Home town of the famous composer Gioacchino Rossini, Pesaro is the capital of the Pesaro and Urbino province.

Maybe a little obscured by Urbino (one of the Italian World Heritage Sites, see: Urbino), however Pesaro deserves an accurate visit for the monuments and the buildings, mostly of the Renaissance age, which enrich the town center.

Settled on two hills overlooking the sea, it is both a bathing resort and an industrial site.
The peculiar climate (hills and sea) makes Pesaro an excellent point for food and wine productions: olive oil, fossa cheese, white truffle….
The fishing port characterizes many local cooking and the names of several dishes are derived from the composer Rossini.

A short history:
For its history we refer to the link below.
According to some scholars, its name comes from the Latin name of the river Foglia (Isaurus or Pisaurus) while the legend has it that here the Gauls weighted the gold plundered in Rome.
