Aymerich park
(Laconi (OR)) - Sardegna)

Once again our friend Francesca shows us unusual aspect of her Sardinia, the Aymerich park.

It covers an area of about 22 hectares surrounding the ruins of the Aymerich castle; it is composed by thick olm-oak woods interspersed with hollows, streams, little falls and ponds which create a fascinating atmosphere available to everyone at a short distance from the town.

A bit of history:
Probably built in the Middle Age over the ruins of a Byzantine castrum for the defense of the Giudicato of Arborea against the Giudicato of Cagliari.
The rectangular donjon dates back to the 11th -12th century.
Nearby there is the real castle, composed by two floors: the floor below is contemporaneous with the donjon, the second floor is of a later period and is enriched by elegant windows with Catalan-Aragonese mouldings.
Until 1800 it was the residence of the lords of Laconi.
In 1990it passed to the Region and now it is managed by the Ente Foreste della Regione Sardegna.
