After visiting Paus (see), we went to visit another small museum, stepping some 30,000 years back in time.
A new museum, with an orderly, rational, easy-to-read presentation of the exhibits, in well-lit display cases in a dark setting, which adds charm to the exceptional collection.
A recommendation: go to Noceto and visit this jewel. |
A bit of history:
On the outskirts of Noceto, in 2005, a very large archaeological structure came to light during some building work.
This large wooden basin (about 12x7, 3 m deep) contained many objects dating back to the terramaricola civilization, the most significant of which were five ploughs, some large baskets, several terracotta animal figurines, about a hundred vases, and various other objects.
The discovery of so many objects inside the basin suggests that they were thrown there for ritual purposes.
Use of the tank ended in the 13th century B.C., then it was abandoned, remaining hidden until the present day.
The tank gave a significant contribution to studies on the civilization of the Po Valley and after long and careful restoration works, in October 2021, the museum dedicated to the Vasca Votiva was inaugurated.
In fact this find is one of the most important archaeological finds in Europe relating to that period.
A note:
By terramaricola civilization we mean those populations that settled in the Po Valley in the Middle and Recent Bronze Age.
By terramare we mean the fortified and communal settlements that occupied the Po Valley between the 16th and 11th centuries BC.
