Ferrera Cenisio (now Moncenisio) in Cenischia Valley |

At the altitude of 4789 ft we find the village of Moncenisio, the highest of the Cenischia Valley and the smallest municipality in Piedmont and maybe in Italy. A few kilometres from France, next to the Vanoise Park, the village develops on the banks of the Cenischia stream and around the parish church of Saint George Martyr. It maintains the old agricultural and farming tradition and the magic of the old mountain village, close to the traditional architecture also in the renovations. To be seen:
From March 2005 the newly restored St Joseph chapel became an authentic sacred art jewel. In summer Moncenisio can be an excellent base for trips and walks close to nature with a rich variety of flora and fauna. In winter it could be an ideal place for ski mountaineering and snow shoes walks. |

To be noted the Museum of the Fell Railway. It was used for a few years (about 1868-1871) and joined Susa with St. Michel de Maurienne crossing the MoncenisioPass. Some traces are still visible along the road. A “tasty” surprise: To know more: |
