This time our friend Francesca makes us know one of the most important European wetlands: the Parco Naturale Regionale Molentargius Saline.
It is a rare ecosystem, an ideal habitat for many animal species even it is surrounded by urbanized areas.

The park can be visited on foot or by bicycle, riding or canoeing to better appreciate the various aspects of the nature.

Some notes:
The park was established in 1999.
The cycles of the tides produced the deposit of two sand strips so originating the coast ponds of Molentargius and Quarto.
However the hydrographic regime is the result of a human structural alteration aiming to the exploitation of the salting basins and more recently to the environmental rehabilitation.
The avian fauna is the most relevant naturalistic element: the park is an ideal nesting ground in spite of the pressure of the nearby urban area.
Among the several avian species we mention the pink flamingo, the symbol of the wetlands of Cagliari region.
