Our friend Gianni takes us to visit one of the most important Romanesque European buildings: the Modena cathedral.

A bit of history:
the cathedral, founded in June 1099, was dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and keeps the remains of Saint Geminianus, the bishop patron of the city, dead in 397 AD.
The cathedral was consecrated in 1194 by Pope Lucius III.
The bell tower was built between 12th and 13th century and its steeple was finished in 1319.
From 1997 this Romanesque masterpiece is listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site together with the Ghirlandina tower and the Piazza Grande.
