If you want to visit Lovere in a single day, just the bare minimum to have an idea of it, we recommend to begin your walk along the lakeside admiring the Sebino (or Lake Iseo) and the town stretched on the hillside.

Then you should go up and stroll along the little streets of the town center where the colors of the houses match with the color of the lake visible through glimpses of the narrow and suggestive lanes.

If time is not a hard master, try to visit some of its several buildings and monuments as, for example, the Basilica of S. Maria in Valvendra, the church of S: Giorgio, the monastery of S. Chiara, the oratory of S. Martino, the sanctuary of S: Giovanni, the Tadini Academy, the Bazzini palace, the Castelliere (here we show some photographs of the basilica of S. Maria in Valvendra).

A short history:
Due to the strategical position, at the entrance of the Cavallina valley, and to the road and water links, its history is eventful.
The first certain settlements, of Celtic origin, go back to the 5th and 3rd century BC.
Under the Roman domination were built the village on the lakeside and an important road, afterwards called S. Maurizio road.
After the fall of the Roman empire, it was swept by the Barbarian invasions ended by the settlement of the Lombards, and then of the Franks.
Many counterworks were built during the bloody conflicts between Guelphs and Ghibellines. These conflicts went on until 15th century, when the Serenissima took power and passed laws useful to for improve the social and economic conditions of the inhabitants together with the revival of the town.
The domination of the Serenissima ended in 1797, when Lovere and its territory entered the Repubblica Cisalpina while in 1815 the town was annexed to the Regno Lombardo Veneto.
