the small Tibet
(Livigno (SO) - Lombardia)

If you are looking for a mountain suitable for all tastes, for the sportspersons and for the lazy persons, for the adults and for the children, for the gourmets and for the folklore lovers, in summer and in winter, don’t try to find exotic destinations and go to Livigno.
Placed at about 5904 ft above sea level, it spreads over the Livigno valley (Alta Valtellina) watered by the Spöl stream.

Some peculiarities:

It is the only Italian town which doesn’t lie in an Italian drainage area since the Spöl stream flows into the Inn, which in turn flows into the Danube.
It is the second Italian town for altitude and its hamlet, Trepalle, at an altitude of 7380ft, is the highest inhabited settlement in Europe.
From 17th century Livigno possess several forms of concessions and autonomies regarding the exchange of goods and the tracks so that is still a duty-free area.
