Ligabue's town
(Gualtieri (RE) - Emila Romagna)

We went to Gualtieri, where Ligabue lived.
The Ligabue we talk about is not the pop singer but is the naïve painter.
Numbered among the “borghi più belli d’Italia” (the finest Italian towns), the town lies on the banks of the Po and certainly deserves a visit.
Central element the splendid Renaissance square Bentivoglio, realized by the architect Giovan Battista Alleotti called the Argenta.
The perfect square has three sides with coffered ceiling arcades and the fourth side is soared by the imposing Palazzo Bentivoglio facing the elegant clock tower.
The palace, still great, originally was four times bigger.
Unfortunately over the years it was constantly despoiled: its bricks were used to reinforce the banks of the Po

Some notes:
The palace and the Ligabue's museum (in the interior) were closed as well as several churches.
A bystander, showing the typical courtesy of the small towns, suggested a visit to the “casa museo di Ligabue”.
We were pleasantly surprised by a perfectly kept little museum, where a competent enthusiastic guide explained the life and the paints of the artist.
The only regret is that our images can’t render the beauty and the harmony of the colors used by Ligabue.

We were impressed by a peculiarity of the town, seldom noticed elsewhere: the wooden main doors, in most cases arched and all finely carved.
