A short history: The Gardens had their origins in 1867 when Thomas Hanbury, having made substantial fortunes in China with the trade of spices, tea and silk, discovered this promontory was during a stay in the French Riviera, he fell in love with the place and bought the old Palazzo Orengo and the land and transformed it, with the collaboration of his brother Daniel, in a garden of acclimatization of exotic plants.
