Placed on the ridge of a hill, on the border between Tuscany and Liguria, Fosdinovo enjoys the feature of being al mountain village (the thin air descends from the Alpi Apuane) with a marine air that, coming from the La Spezia gulf, smells of saltiness all around.
At the end of the ridge, austere, the splendid Malaspina castle rises up. The castle is steeped in history; the high poet, Dante, seems to have lived here.
As all the castles worthy of respect, among its walls wanders the ghost of a beautiful but dissipated woman (16th century) who used to murder the men she could not conquer.
