Arriving in the village, you almost expect to meet Pietro dal Verme and Cecilia del Maino, with their troubled love story.
Perched on the ridge between the Coppa and Ardivestra valleys, enclosed by chestnut and oak woods, the village is intact.
Extremely well-kept, it has retained the charm of the ancient Middle Ages, rightfully ranked among 'the most beautiful villages in Italy'.
A place absolutely worth visiting.

A bit of history:
In the 10th century vassal of the bishop of Tortona.
From the early 1400s until almost the end of the 15th century, it was enfeoffed by the Dal Verme family, of Veronese origin, who had settled in Lombardy.
In 1487 it was acquired by the Botta family, who created a vast fiefdom, later elevated to marquisate.
It was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1743 and then to France in 1801, with the Napoleonic invasion.
