the lure of the great river - 1/2
(Reggio Emilia, Parma, Piacenza (RE PR PC) - Emilia Romagna)

The photos refer to a short walk in a lovely natural territory, as already done for the Apennines (see Apennines part 1and part 2), cradle of many art cities and of cultural fervor.

It is also a basin of many Italian food and wine excellences like these few cheeses: starting from the sources the bra, then the Parmesan cheese and at the mouth the squacquerone.

Some notes:
While the Apennines can be considered the backbone of Italy, the Po could be its jugular artery considering that its basin drainage area of about 27413 sqM.
Its importance for the agriculture of the Po Valley is evident, although lately the climate changes may cause serious problems.
Its tourist importance could also be greater if a navigation system was established along its entire course (and also along some of its left tributaries), which would serve to revive our territory after the forced arrest for the pandemic.
Of course we are not river navigation experts, but o going to its banks we often see many industrial boats, but very few tourist boats. The only boat we have seen is actually anchored on the Serafini island (CR) and does not seem to be in a position to transport tourists (see photo no. 39).
