Christmas climates
(Egna / Neumarkt (BZ) - Trentino Alto Adige)

Coming back from Bolzano where we visited the typical market (see) we opted to travel along the state road towards Trento avoiding the boring, even if faster, highway.
To give a better farewell to this country, we stopped in Egna for a coffee.
Despite of the imminent evening and the cold, we took a walk along the streets of the town tasting the Christmas atmosphere.

It was really worthwhile.

A historical note:
Typical early medieval town with a trading vocation.
Founded in 1189 by Corrado, bishop of Trento.
In 13th century it passed to the Counts of Tyrol who had their main interests in Bolzano and kept quite intact the original aspect of Egna still visible today.

Of special interest, in addition to the characteristic porticos, the late Gothic churches of San Nicolò and of Santa Maria in Villa and the eighteen-century Palazzo Griesfield.
In the hamlet Laghetti / Laag there are other interesting buildings as the Hospice and the church of St. Florian.
