On the Lombard side, nearly at the southern edge, of the lake of Garda (or Benaco), beyond the enchanting views Desenzano enjoys a particular mild climate.
This sort of climate makes it an excellent holiday destination in all seasons.
Coming from the motorway, after parking the car, you can stroll along its streets as far as the austere castle.
From here the streets stretch out along a steep descent, almost attracted by the lake.
The picturesque streets, full of splendid views, lead to the square facing the splendid old harbour.

A short history:
Inhabited since the prehistory, it was a Roman settlement.
During the Middle Age the Cathar heresy expanded here and was finally defeated in 1276, with the stake of the heretics in Verona.
Under the domination of the Serenissima many revolts took place to escape its control.
After the Napoleonic era, Desenzano entered the Kingdom Lombardy-Venetia, under the control of the Austrian Empire.
In 1859 Desenzano joined to the Kingdom of Sardinia and then of the Kingdom of Italy.
