I have to admit: if some time ago someone would have told me to go to Aosta, I would have said “But the August arch is shown in all photographs!”
Then, having to drive in that area and having some time to spend, quite unwillingly I decided to visit it.

And I was surprised.

Aosta is not only the August arch.

The ruins of the Roman amphitheatre are superb and so are the fascinating hypogea that the town quite shyly hides.
Walking through its streets (in most cases pedestrian in the old town) the glimpses of medieval buildings, of the peaks of the mountains fascinate the visitors.

And moreover, you walk without being hassled by the smoky traffic, while from some shop the scent of the local dainties gives off.

A man-sized town to be absolutely visited, possibly staying there some days to better appreciate and discover its beauties.
