Driving along the SP33 from Parma, just before the junction with the Padana Inferiore state road, you come to the small village of Cicognolo^[*].
In this small municipality stands a villa that deserves, at least externally, to be admired.

Therefore, when travelling along the provincial or state road, a small diversions is recommended

[*] Caution: not to be confused with Cicognolo PO in the province of Pavia, if you type Cicognolo on GOOGLE.

A bit of history:
The first fortified core (known by the name Calianum) dates back to the 10th century.
In the 12th century it was subject to the Cremonese Cistercian monastery of San Giovanni della Pipia.
Being a border area, it was the scene of various armed clashes between 1300 and 1400.
Over time and especially in the early 19th century Cremonese landowners built here many buildings.

The castle villa:
probably erected on the pre-existing base of a medieval castle, built between 1830 and 1840 by the architect Luigi Voghera on behalf of the Spanish Marquis Manfredi.
