The castle rises just at the first slopes of the Apennines. Finally, even if occasionally, the imposing building opens to public.

Guided by professors Alessandro Malinverni and Carlo Mambriani, at last we could discover this hidden treasure already known only by scholars

A bit of history:
It is a medieval fortress already mentioned in an 1100 document and at that tome called Montebello or Belmonte.
It has been the residence of various landlords as Niccolò Terzi, the Dalla Porta and the Visconti families and at last of the Sforza Fogliani.
In the 18th century the duke Giovanni Fogliani restored and transformed the castle following a project attributed to Luigi Vanvitelli.
The daughter Clelia Sforza Fogliani d’Aragona, testamentary heiress of the last male descendant and married to the marquis Pallavicino of Parma, remained a childless widow and in 1925donated the building to the Holy See which transformed the castle in an university college for the nuns operational until 1973.
In 2015 the castle entered the circuit of the Castelli del Ducato di Parma e Piacenza.

The visits:
Now and only in 2017 the visits are restricted to the 4th Sunday from June to September and to the 1st October.

As already said the complex was transformed during the centuries.
The reworking continued until at about 1930 when an "architect" outraged the splendid entrance courtyard joining an imposing building in front of the Chiesa di San Biagio
