Castellaro Lagusello

We have to thank Mr. Alessandro Foroni (L’Arena di Verona) who with his report let us discover this hidden little gem.

Placed on the morainal hills south of GardaLake, Castellaro Lagusello is worth a visit also by the absent-minded tourist.

The medieval village is surrounded by walls and faces a little lake (from there the name Lagusello), maybe a remembrance of ancient ice ages.
The castle dates back to 12th century and was built by the Scaligeri, but for its strategic position it passed under the rule of the Visconti, of the Gonzaga and under the Serenissima, the VeniceRepublic.
In 1600, having lost its strategic relevance, it was given by the Serenissima to the Arrighi Counts and by them it was transformed in a comfortable house without destroying its original aspect.

Of the old castle the walls, four towers (there where 10 of them), some stretches of the parapet walk and two medieval rural houses still remain quite undamaged.
