Often genius does not exists if someone does not discover him.
Today called talent scouts and once patrons, often eclipsed by the rising genius, however they remain in history, sometimes known only for their name.
We want to introduce to you Antonio Barezzi's house, nowadays fitted out as an attractive museum with Verdi's rare and extraordinary heirlooms and where, in the lounge, the furnishings are still the original ones.
Antonio Barezzi, a rich grocer, in 1816 established the “Società Filarmonica Bussetana” and his lounge became the base for the rehearsals and the performances.
Skilled player of five instruments and especially of flute, with admirable far-sightedness he became first the patron and then, after the marriage of his daughter Margherita, the father-in-law ofa boy, son of the innkeeper of Roncole (hamlet of Busseto).
It is quite needless to say that that boy will rise to fame as the Maestro Giuseppe Verdi, who, grateful, will write dedicating the “Macbeth” to Barezzi:
“and father and benefactor and friend ... as a testimony of the eternal memory, of the gratitude and of the fondness .. of your devoted G. Verdi”
The house really deserves a visit and maybe you could seize the opportunity of listening to the musical exhibitions masterly organised by the Association “Amici di Verdi”, that has its base in the house. |
