Barumini, not only Su Nuraxi
(Barumini (VS) - Sardegna)

Our friend Francesca, always discovering Sardinia, this time brings us to Barumini, that immediately recalls the marvelous nuraghe “Su Nuraxi”.
But Francesca not only shows us the spectacular remains of the nuraghe, nut also some suggestive views of the adjacent village.
Su Nuraxi is the greatest and best preserved nuraghe of the island and was included in the UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites in 1997, but the village can boast also the Palazzo Zapata under which during the recent restoration was discovered another nuraghe perfectly preserved.

Now the palace and the complex, called “Su Nuraxi’ e Cresia” hosts a museum, opened in 2006.

A short history:
Inhabited since the Bronze Age (about 1800 BC), it was dominated by the Carthaginians and then by Romans.
During the Middle Age it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea (that was one of the four Giudicati of the island), and from 1409 to 1713 it passed to the Crown of Aragon.
In 1847 the whole island was joined under the Kingdom of Sardinia.
