A bit of history:
The fortress dates back to the 9th century and it seems that the construction ended in the 10th during the reign of Berengar of Friuli.
In 898 it became property of the bishop of Piacenza and was used as a refuge by the Magyars, who raided the Po Valley in those times.
Ruled by local nobles, it witnessed many battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines.
It passed under the dominion of the Landi family that in the XV century adapted the fortress to the new defensive needs giving it the aspect that today can be admired.
At the end of the XVI century Federico Landi made the fortress a princely residence.
With the extinction of the Landi family, the fortress began a period of decadence, although it became subject first to the Farnese and then to the Bourbons of Parma,
In 1960, fortunately, recovery actions began.
