observatory of the memories: Asinara |

This time Francesca presents a peculiar aspect of the Sardinian territory. This time the protagonist is not the blue of the sea or the white of the beaches, but is the disused penal colony of the Asinara now a museum telling about the sad stories of the prisoners. |

Francesca says: The museum displays tools and uniforms of the prisoners employed as agricultural workers and in sheep-breeding. Last January the Asinara National Park finished the first décor of an Observatory of memories [1] which will be opened in June to public for the purpose of telling about the detention life with the common objects and the public readings by actors. The opening will be flanked by cultural events and shows, with institutional guests and operators and will precede the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Asinara National Park, founded in October 1997 when the prison closed down. The prison was abandoned in 1998 and in 2002 the whole island was declared Asinara National Park. [1] At the moment of the publication of the special the events already went off.
