Known for its thermal waters, Acqui Terme is nestled in the middle Val Bormida among the vineyards and the beautiful landscapes of the upper Monferrato.
The sulphur springs gush out at the remarkable temperature of about 46 °C (~114.8 °F), as evidenced in the central pavilion called “la bollente”*.

The town and its spa are renowned since Roman times.

A bit history:
The first evidence of a settlement dates back to the Neolithic era.
Inhabited by Ligurian tribes, it was then conquered by the Roman legions.
Since the times of the Lombards, it has been influenced by the powerful Bobbio abbey founded by the Irish monk Columbanus.
In the following centuries, the town was ruled by its bishops.
In the early Middle Age it came into conflict with the nearby city of Alexandria and did not join the Lombard League against Emperor Barbarossa.
No longer able to resist against Alessandria, in 1278 Acqui surrendered itself to the Marquises of Monferrato.
Ruled by the Byzantines Palaiologos and occasionally by the Anjou and the Visconti, it passed to the Dukes of Mantua until 1708 when it was annexed to Piedmont under the House of Savoy.
